Upon winning the International Open Competition for Lt. Petrosino Park in 1996, Suzan Wines and Azin Valy founded I-Beam Design as a multi-disciplinary architecture and design studio in Chelsea, NYC. I-Beam Design's work includes cultural, corporate, commercial, landscape and residential projects and has been described as "…The Space Shifters who create ingenious and experimental multitasking spaces…" They believe "modern" is not only a 21st century movement or style but a state of mind, a way of seeing and thinking about the world, the values in sustainability, eco-friendliness, and social conciseness with a flair for beauty. They repurpose the abandoned, rethink the obvious, and celebrate the future by using small solutions to solve multiple problems, making the ordinary, extraordinary. Their work has been celebrated in major publications from around the world and their humanitarian design for temporary housing won an award from Architecture for Humanity and published in Design Like You Give a Damn. They have been exhibited at the Milan Triennale, Prince Charles' Royal Gardens, and Venice Biennale. Ms Wines has been teaching architecture at the Cooper Union, Parsons, Pratt and City College for the last 12 years with Ms Valy participating as a guest juror at the above institutions.
