HistoryThe international Society of Petroleum Engineers dates all the way back to 1957, when it was founded as a constituent society of the American Institute of Mining Engineers (AIME). The SPE was later separated and distinguished as independent organization in 1985, one that prides itself on addressing the technical interests and embracing the cultural diversity of its ever growing community of students and professionals. You can find more information on the history of this esteemed global society here: http://www.spe.org/about/history.phpAs for the history of the SPE student chapter at Texas A&M University at Qatar; it was established back in the 1st of January 2007 and celebrates its 10-year anniversary this academic year, a true milestone for our chapter. During this past decade, the organization has taken massive strides in terms of its exposure to both students and professionals regionally and globally. Operating as one of the key chapters in the State of Qatar and the Middle East/North Africa Section, the chapter prides itself on continuously qualifying to the ATCE Petrobowl finals and has won several awards; most notably the outstanding student chapter award three consecutive times in 2015, 2016 and 2017. MissionOur mission is to indulge as many students as we can in the organization, to ensure a better involvement with the oil and gas industry through providing them with internships, field trips, conferences and workshops. PurposeThe purpose of this chapter is to improve the professional and technical skills for engineering students and enhance their exposure to the oil & gas industry.
