The Silk Tent offers an ethnic flare to jewelry, textiles, home decor and more. We nurture our customers enthusiasm for multicultural diversity through our products and strive to provide a unique interpretation of art around the world. We supplement our items with a collection of artifacts from a variety of countries including Indonesia, India, Africa, and United States to name a few. They are used to influence and compliment the design elements of our products. With this approach, we've created products with a special blend of past and present as well as paying homage to the craftsmanship of artists globally. As an example, The Silk Tent presented a line of eye catching jewelry inspired by the Mbuti tribe, located in the Ituri Forest of the Democratic Republic of Congo. These unique designs come to life in a reinterpretation of patterns that capture the free spirit of the "bamiki-bandura" (children of the forest). With this Ituri line we aspire to contribute a percentage of its proceeds to charities that aid artisans of the Democratic Republic of Congo and other countries during its period of strife. In helping to preserve their valuable talents, we also hope to expand this line to other related products that showcase their inspirational creativity. The Silk Tent has presented lectures and demonstrations in college and community settings all over the Philadelphia region to explain, inform, and teach interested audiences in the background history and artistic ascetics that influence the products that we produce. We have participated in programs using artifacts in our presentations ranging from museum quality artwork to fun crafts for kids. The versatility in our prices reflect the financial diversity of our customers and our goal is to reach all economic stratospheres. We invite you to share our vision of "one of a kind" products that aid, educate, and raise consciousness in the community at large.
