The Center for Metal Arts (CMA) is an education center about an hour NW of New York City offering artists, design professionals and the public an opportunity to work with metal and explore the design potential of forge and anvil. Classes are held year round in the well stocked metal arts teaching studio, which is equipped with 12 working stations for hammer work at the anvil, power hammer stations, gas and coal forges, and small metals tooling. No prior metals experience is required for many workshops, while the master classes are designed to open up new skill levels for practicing artists.Established in 2003, the Center for Metal Arts attracts resident, regional and international instructors, and the staff includes award-winning blacksmiths and designers, studio techs and support staff. Two major learning tracks offer beginner to advanced workshops in Blacksmithing and Small Metals, and a strong visiting artist program contributes to an ongoing mission to add diverse topics and talents to the foundation curriculum. Adjacent to the classroom area is the working studio of Iceforge / Fine Architectural Metalsmiths. The gallery showroom is an idea factory of "sketches in iron" metal design, repousse, foldform work, bronze casting, forge work studies, and finishes. Iceforge (www.iceforge.com) has been an award-winning metal arts studio since 1981, and its gallery holds studies and elements for such projects as the Inner Courtyard Gate at the Dakota on 72nd Street in NYC.
