The Laboratory of Computational Methods in Engineering (LAMCE – www.lamce.coppe.ufrj.br) of the Engineering Graduate program of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE/UFRJ) is the and main office for AirCentre Rio. Our research group has been developing climate hydrodynamic downscaling experiments in order to evaluate climate change environmental, social and economic potential impacts over Brazilian coastal region and we believe it would be very interesting to further develop these over a DTO framework and using available global (e.g., CMEMS) and local (Brazilian) datasets. Together with AIR Centre, LAMCE is also developing projects in cooperation with some international institutions as Instituto Superior Tecnico – University of Lisboa (Portugal) evolving applications of ocean regional modelling around South Atlantic Basin. We believe that we could contribute to different goals associated with your proposal especially in Brazilian coastal and ocean region, in particular demonstrating the extension of a DTO framework (Ocean2.eu) to a non-European region helping promote its adoption, its application to a coastal region with specific challenges and the usefulness of such digital tools for local decision makers. LAMCE has been operating for over 35 years in the area of research, formulating and development of numerical methods in Computational Engineering. Today LAMCE is one of the largest laboratories at COPPE, with a multidisciplinary team composed of oceanographers, meteorologists, geologists, geographers and engineers. Through its Environmental Modeling Core, the laboratory performs the following activities: development and implementation of regional atmospheric and oceanic models, analysis of oceanographic and meteorological data, data assimilation in ocean models, geoprocessing and remote sensing.
