I graduated from Harvard Law School in 1968, worked for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights from 1968-1969, worked with Marian Wright Edelman at the Washington Research Project (forerunner of the Children's Defense Fund) from 1969-1973, was in solo practice from 1973-1977 and 2005 to date, handled employment discrimination cases for the Lawyers' Committee on Civil Rights Under Law from 1977-2001, was a partner at Lieff, Cabraser, Heimann & Bernstein from 2001-2005, and then returned to solo practice. I was Chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the American Bar Association from August 2011 to August 2012, at which time it had 26,000 members and was the third-largest section of the ABA. I was named "Lawyer of the Year" by the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers' Association. I speak and write extensively. See more at my litigation website, www.RickSeymourLaw.com. I serve as an arbitrator, deciding disputes where the parties have agreed to arbitration as a faster, fairer, and less expensive way to resolve a matter than it would be to fight it out in court. I am on the American Arbitration Association's roster of Commercial Arbitrators and its roster of Employment Arbitrators. I am also on the American Health Lawyers Association's roster of arbitrators. I also serve as a mediator, helping parties to reach resolutions of their disputes, at any stage of a dispute. I have mediated individual cases, class actions, and collective actions. I am familiar with group dynamics, which is really important when the class or the group of opt-ins in a collective action are attending the mediation.
