I'm a business writer with 15 years' experience including 10 years in various in-house marketing, communications and content strategy roles with an ASX top 20 financial services organisation. As a freelance copywriter I now specialise (although not to the exclusion of all else) in financial services, creating wealth management content for customers and intermediaries to generate brand awareness, audience engagement and business results.I help brands untangle the complexity of their messaging and distil information down to the key elements that customers will want to know. After many years writing about traditionally low engagement products like superannuation I'm familiar with strategies and techniques for lifting otherwise dreary content to catch people's attention and motivate them to take action. I love the craft of storytelling and assembling the emotional and practical components that produce a compelling narrative – so much so that I took a creative writing MA and published my first novel, 'Where There Is Darkness', in 2016. However, while brand storytelling can be a powerful tool, audiences sometimes don't want a story – they just want concise information that tells them what's on offer, or how a product or service works, or what action they need to take. My approach is to start with the audience and work back from there to determine message, medium, style and tone – within established brand guidelines, of course.
