The American Nuclear Society (ANS) is a not-for-profit, international, scientific and educational organization established by a group of individuals who recognized the need to unify the professional activities within the diverse fields of nuclear science and technology. December 11, 1954, marks the Society's historic beginning at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. ANS has since developed a diverse membership composed of approximately 11,000 engineers, scientists, administrators, educators, and nuclear advocates representing 1,600 plus corporations, educational institutions, and governmental agencies. It is governed by four officers and a Board of Directors elected by the national membership.In fall of 2018, the Society launched www.NavigatingNuclear.com, the Society's K-12 STEM education program made available to the general public online, as well as in approximately 50% of classrooms throughout the U.S. via subscription-based, digital platform from Discovery Education. ANS also owns and operates the Center for Nuclear Science and Technology Information (www.nuclearconnect.org), the outreach platform for educators and general, public-based information about nuclear.
