Since 1979, Chicago Dramatists has been dedicated to a single mission—to nurture extraordinary playwrights with the space, resources and collaborators needed to realize new work and thrive as artists. We support Resident Playwrights for six-nine years with readings and workshops to bring their plays to life. The Tutterow Fellows, comprised of historically under-represented voices, enjoy two years of mentorship, training, a paid commission and a festival of readings at the end of their tenure. Additionally, hundreds of other writers and theatre makers are served with public classes, workshops and other services through The Writer's Studio. Prominent Alumni include Lydia R. Diamond (Smart People, Stick Fly - Broadway), Keith Huff (A Steady Rain - Broadway, House of Cards), Tanya Saracho (Fade, How to Get Away With Murder), Andrew Hinderaker (Suicide, Inc., Penny Dreadful), Martín Zimmerman (Seven Spots on the Sun, Narcos, Ozark), Sarah Gubbins (The Kid Thing, I Love Dick), among others.
