What makes this school special is that it provides consistent academic excellence, yet remains a school whose hallmarks are friendliness, belief in the breadth of opportunity for all and a real sense of community. The success of the school can be measured by excellent academic results and by its record of helping students to subsequent destinations in education and employment that are challenging and fulfilling. We feel it is equally important to measure our success by the range of opportunities our students experience. We place huge value on the wider curriculum both inside and outside the classroom. At Backwell, we believe in promoting respect and tolerance to create an inclusive community of which young people are proud to feel a part of, even many years after they leave school. Backwell is a popular school. Currently, there are 1,300 students in Years 7 to 11 and 390 in the Sixth Form. As well as enabling our young people to achieve academic success, we place great importance on helping them to develop a strong sense of right and wrong and actively uphold the values of tolerance and mutual respect.
