The Alliance Language Network (ALN) was established in 1996 to provide interpretation services to meet the growing needs of Houston's international community. ALN is a social enterprise subsidiary of The Alliance for Multicultural Community Services, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All Alliance Language Network proceeds go back into serving the Houston community by increasing support for client self-sufficiency and employment opportunities. Alliance Language Network currently has 233 independent contractors with many years of experience providing interpretation and translation services for over 22 school districts, multiple healthcare providers, legal firms, and non-profits in the Greater Houston Area. As a nonprofit subsidiary, ALN can guarantee competitive and affordable rates. Alliance Language Network provides access to language services on a required basis, upon the request of the customer. Services include consecutive interpreting, simultaneous interpreting, ASL interpreting, communication access real-time interpretation, written translation, and over the phone interpretation. Currently, ALN has a language capacity of over 70 languages. The most requested languages are Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Urdu, Mandarin, and Cantonese. All interpreters used by ALN are independently contracted and undergo an initial screening/interview, language assessment, and training before they are assigned any appointments. Interpreters are required to have, at a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent. Training is provided, by ALN, upon hire, and on an ongoing basis. Our interpretation work falls into four main categories: Educational, Healthcare, Non-profit/Social Services, and Legal.
