The Tenth is a media collective dedicated to researching, restoring, presenting, and preserving the global aesthetics of the queer African diaspora. We publish a bi-annual print magazine which holds narratives about black LGBTQ bodies and how we navigate and contribute to our respective global spaces. Although our core team is composed of editors living in New Orleans, New York City and Hudson, Tenth contributors, and those like them, can not be clearly defined or categorized, but what we do know is that they are in some way exceptional, taking risks and breaking norms.Since the launch of the magazine in the spring of 2014, after hearing countless stories from our disenfranchised yet resilient community, we have been charged to go beyond the print page to develop initiatives to provide a safer space and empowerment initiatives for LGBTQ people of color. We live in a political and social climate that will not allow us to live in microcosms. At The Tenth we find it is an imperative to bring together a diverse body of ideas, thoughts and questions in order to foster a solidarity which can help us not only cultivate tolerance, but also find working solutions to our world's most gripping issues.
