The flagship Leer mine consistently ranks among the lowest cost U.S. metallurgical mines and produces a product quality that is recognized and sought-after worldwide. An Arch subsidiary is in the process of developing a second world-class longwall mine known as Leer South on the same reserve base. Leer South is expected to commence longwall production in the third quarter of 2021. Arch and its subsidiaries also operate highly efficient, low-cost thermal mines in the United States — in the Powder River Basin, Colorado and Illinois.
