Stow-Glen was founded in 1984 by David Baker (builder) and Shirley Sumser. In 1989 that partnership disolved and David and his son Ken ran the facility from 1989 - 1997. In 1997, Ken retired and moved to Florida while David returned to the Akron area to oversee the facility. Stow-Glen was the first facility in Summit County to offer Independent Living, Assisted Living and Long Term Care Nursing all on one campus. After Ken retired, David established Stow-Glen as an ESOP company and the employees owned 46% of the business. That transaction occured in 2000. By 2003, Stow-Glen began expanding and applied to become a Skilled Nursing Facility and also offer Home Health Care and Adult Day Care. Now we are able to meet all the needs of our residents. In 2010, David Baker decided to retire and who better to continue serving the residents who have come to call Stow-Glen home then the current employees. On September 15, 2010 - David sold his 54% ownership of the business allowing Stow-Glen to become the first 100% Employee Owned Health Care Facility.Come visit us today!
