Yes I Can, Inc. (Y.I.C.) is an upcoming trauma informed care 501 (c) (3) non-profit established to provide the first of its kind intensive childhood sexual abuse trauma healing center in NYC and other supportive services to low-income head of household mothers living with HIV. In addition, Y.I.C. will provide Trauma Informed Care Training to human service organizations. Our mission is twofold; To promote healing from the horrific experiences of childhood sexual abuse trauma (CSAT) and empower survivors to come to terms with the aftermath that led to a lifestyle of substance abuse, repeated relapse, domestic violence, mental disturbance, the maltreatment of children, and the spread of HIV virus; and to empower human service providers with the skills needed to develop a trauma informed approach in servicing consumers in need of services. Founder and Chair of Yes I Can, Inc. Ruth Barbosa, M.S. has worked in the HIV and substance abuse field for over 15 years and experienced firsthand the destructive lifestyle survivors have chosen in order to survive their childhood sexual abuse trauma and the lack of community resources to help survivors heal. This connection is the foundation for the organization as a whole to connect with survivors and empower them to heal. In 2009 Ruth Barbosa and five Board Members envisioned Yes I Can, Inc's "Spirit Care Healing Center" a program committed to improve the overall quality of life for survivors and their children.
