Midwest Housing Equity Group, Inc funds affordable housing in ten states across the Midwest: Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas. Midwest Housing was created in 1993 under the direction of former Governor Ben Nelson. Midwest Housing later expanded, starting in 2000, into Kansas, Iowa and Oklahoma. In 2013, Midwest Housing expanded into six additional states. Midwest Housing is a privately owned non-profit corporation with a nine member Board of Directors. Midwest Housing receives no federal or state dollars.
