Artist at SPONSORED ARTS FOR EDUCATION (S.A.F.E.) at SPONSORED ARTS FOR EDUCATION (S.A.F.E.) - London, England, United Kingdom
S.A.F.E. is a Kenyan NGO and UK charity that uses the performing arts and community programmes to educate, inspire and deliver social change. S.A.F.E.'s work focuses on promoting positive behaviour change, specifically around HIV/ AIDS, peace, female genital cutting and clean drinking water. Over the last decade, S.A.F.E. has demonstrated that high-quality mobile street theatre delivered to whole communities, combined with targeted educational activities, generates powerful behavioural and cultural change at an individual, household and community level. On stage: S.A.F.E. uses theatre to overcome the barriers in people's behaviours and communities in order to let through life-saving information and services. The performances provide people with the information, skills and attitudes that enable them to take the first steps to changing their own lives for the better. Off stage: S.A.F.E.'s follow-up community programmes are delivered directly by the teams on the ground and through partner organisations. When welcomed by the community, this results in significant increases in the take-up of services and interventions.
