I DO's mission is to create a movement of social leaders and synergize their efforts to transform India. We have two initiatives running right now: Health Awareness Campaign and Champions of Change. Champions of Change (http://www.ido.org.in/champions-of-change/): Champions of Change aims at building a Fellowship of social leaders through placing Fellows in different CSOs (Civil Society Organizations) for a fixed period of time (1 month - June 2016), followed by a 4-day peer-learning workshop in Ralegan-Siddhi, a model village in Maharashtra. The Fellows will then be supported in executing their own ideas for social change. The application for the 1st Batch of the Fellowship is now OPEN. Earlier the applications are submitted, earlier they will be evaluated, and we recommend that you submit your application by 20th April, 2016! Health Awareness Campaign (http://www.ido.org.in/health-awareness-campaign/): Health Awareness Campaign is being piloted in Malkangiri district in Odisha. The area has several tribal villages, and as one might guess, Infant and Maternal Mortality Rates are high in these communities. This happens because of several reasons, some of which are lack of proper care during pregnancy, preference to deliver babies at home, not getting immunized, etc. Lack of knowledge, beliefs in quarks (local untrained doctors) and archaic cultural beliefs play a crucial role in creating these problems. Health Awareness Campaign aims at providing critical healthcare information to these communities.
