Syiah Kuala University (Unsyiah) founded on 2 September 1961 is one of the leading universities in Indonesia. It is located in the Province of Aceh. The name of the university is taken from the prominent theologian, Tengku Abdur Rauf As Singkili a.k.a. Teungku Syiah Kuala (Acehnese, means Sheikh Ulamā in Kuala), who lived in the 16th century. As one of the higher educational institutions, Unsyiah has a strategic functions in enhancing the quality of human resources, both for local, national and regional levels. As university of the heart of Aceh People’s (in Acehnese, Jantong Hatee Rakyat Aceh) which quality as priority, Unsyiah integrating universal values, national, and local levels to deliver human resources with harmony in between science and technology (IPTEK) and IMTAQ. The balance between them is become a main component in producing quality of human resources, virtuous character, ethics, aesthetics and morality. Currently, Unsyiah has more than 30,000 students studying in 12 faculties and the graduate programs. Also, this institution holds the best grade of National Accreditation, "A".
