As of 2020, there are over 400,000 foreign domestic workers working in Hong Kong. This large minority group contributes to 3.6% of Hong Kong's GDP, and enables a much larger percentage of female Hong Kongers to enter the workforce. However, time and time again, foreign domestic workers continue to experience countless struggles from insufficient support - in this country they should be able to call "home." HelpBridge aims to eliminate the stigma that workers feel when they need help, through a mobile application that serves as a one-stop platform for them to get help, discuss, or help other fellow workers regarding all kinds of topics relevant to their day-to-day experience. It'll be structured as a community forum, where members can start threads for any kind of issue or topic they'd like to get insight for and is open to responses from other workers, and our own professional advisers from partner NGOs. We will also provide educational content that tackles important topics such as financial management or basic legal processes. And to emphasize a sense of solidarity, they'll be able to connect with one another via the profiles they create in the app.We envision HelpBridge to be the go-to platform of assistance for all FDWs in Hong Kong. From the beginning of their journeys as they find employment, all the way to the end of their contracts, we aim to be the essential mobile assistant for foreign domestic workers, empowering them in the most transparent and accessible ways.
