The Poona college of Arts Science & commerce was founded in the year 1970 by the Anjuman Khairul Islam (A.K.I.) Mumbai and is affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) at the Junior College level and to the Savitribai Phule Pune University at the Senior College level. In a short period of 49 Years, the College has grown into a full fledged degree college with P. G. centers in Electronics, Computer Science, Organic Chemistry, Zoology, English, Economics, Urdu and Commerce. The College proudly boasts of having full fledged University Recognized Research centers in Commerce, Chemistry & Economics with Research Guides in the these subjects. The College is also planning to have research centers in Urdu and English very shortly. It is a matter of pride that the College also has University approved research guides in the subjects of English, Bio -mathematics, Geology Commerce, Economics, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Botany and Bio-Informatics. The Poona College is also the first College in Pune to be selected by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi for the introduction of Computer Maintenance course at the degree level as a part of the UGC program "Vocationalization of First Degree Education" from the academic year 1994 -95. The college also imparts teaching for Vocational course of Electronics and Information Technology at the Junior College level. The College has been accredited by NAAC and was awarded ‘A' Grade in May 2004.The Institute is fully equipped with modem infra structural facilities and has top class faculty members. Due to the dedication of highly qualified staff, the strength of the college has reached around 7000 students, of which 4000 are in the Senior College. The University and Board Examination results speak well of the high degree of academic excellence attained by the students who are equally proficient in co-curricular activities in which they take keen interest.
