Historic residence designed by architect, John A. Dempwolf, for Mr. and Mrs. Alexander W. Himes of New Oxford, Pennsylvania. Built in 1888, the timeless American Queen Anne home has original stained-glass windows, original slate roof, soaring ceilings and a deep-set front porch. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Himes were together until his untimely death from typhoid fever in 1907. Mrs. Sarah Himes completed an ambitious art deco redesign in the 1920s and continued to maintain the household until her passing in 1931.This amazing house is the child of industrial revolution success and she came of age in the opulence of art deco. For more than a century, she has remained steadfast and stoic. She is master craftsmanship, modern innovation, abundant prosperity, and untold loss. She is living history.
