Gruppo San Donato's story begins in 1957, through the personal efforts of Dr. Luigi Rotelli, with a single nursing home. Today we grew to be the largest Italian hospital group, as well as one of the top European groups.We consist of 19 hospitals, 3 of which are IRCCS (the prestigious title given by the Italian State to institutions that carry out scientific research aimed to improve cure quality), and provide a total of 5,532 beds. These numbers allow us to have a widespread presence though all the main provinces of Lombardy (Milan, Monza, Como, Pavia, Bergamo, Brescia), as well as in Bologna.We treat about 4.7 million patients a year, 250,000 of whom through the Emergency Department, providing all clinical specialties recognized. Our top services (cardiac surgery, cardiology, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics and obesity treatments) are nowadays recognized at an international level, given the top levels of excellence reached.We take pride in carrying out 90% of our clinical activity in agreement with the National Health System (NHS), having established a rare synergy that allows us to provide quality private treatments as public national services. We are a team of 16,922, of whom 5,361 are doctors.Other than the excellence of clinical activity, what distinguishes us in Europe is the high quality of university teaching and scientific research: 308 University teachers and researchers - 2,976 Students - 539 Specialists - 1,446 scientific publications per year and 8,545 Impact Factor points.
