The Jaya He GVK New Museum is the most comprehensive museum on art and craft of India and it's entirely situated in the public space. Sharing its home with Mumbai's International Airport it will, with 40 million yearly passengers, undoubtedly be the most visited museum in the world. A brainchild of Sanjay Reddy, Vice Chairman of GVK, and curated by Rajeev Sethi, the museum holds over a thousand artefacts, some dating back to the 11th century and it exhibits work from more than a hundred artists from all over India.Art and craft are treated as equals and the museum becomes as such a cornerstone of traditional and contemporary India. The philosophy behind the museum is making the heritage and art of India available to a larger group of people, while at the same time giving meaning to a usually nondescript airport space. The museum is developing an extensive programme in which it takes its message and story to schools and other public arenas.
