Clinical Supervisor at Autism Service Provider & Beyond - Naperville, Illinois, United States
We are expanding to include a daycare facility designed for children with special needs (i.e., autism) from birth to five years of age. When children with autism are in a traditional daycare setting they may be physically cared for, but often they are not taught because the staff are not trained in special education. Many of the children may be referred out of the program because of high behaviors and disruptions. As a result many working parents get called away from work or have to quit their jobs in order to care for their children.Research shows that children who have autism should receive 40 hours of therapy a week. Many programs through the state and school districts for this early developmental age range offer a small fraction of the intensive therapy that is recommended. The incidence of autism has increased from 1 in 150 in 2000 to 1 in 88 in 2008, so there is a need to provide these individuals with affordable, intensive, therapeutic services.
