The Brain Injury Alliance of Washington (BIAWA) is a small nonprofit organization that has exhibited the power to do great things. BIAWA was originally founded in 1982 as the Washington State Head Injury Foundation by family members united by a determination to create a system of support for all Washingtonians whose lives are affected by Brain Injury. Today, a cadre of volunteers, board members and staff work collaboratively to carry out the organization's mission: to increase public awareness, support and hope for those affected by Brain Injury through education, assistance and advocacy.BIAWA is proud to serve the state of Washington through three main programs: The Washington Brain Injury Resource Center, Brain Health and Wellness Program, and Brain Injury Peer Navigation. The Washington Brain Injury Resource Center provides support through the following programs: -Toll Free Resource Line (877) 824-1766-Adult and Pediatric Resource Management-Clinical Case Management-Outreach and Training-Academic Scholarships-Support Groups-Social Activities-Inter-Agency CollaborationThe Brain Health and Wellness Program provides non-clinical classes on a variety of topics that are important to the Brain Injury community. Topics include: Mindfulness and Meditation, Relationships, Music Therapy, Organizing, Cognitive Success, and many more! The Brain Injury Peer Navigation Program pairs Brain Injury survivors with a Peer Navigator, a survivor who is ready to help other survivors navigate some of life's difficulties with Brain Injury. Navigating life with Brain Injury can be tough, but you don't have to go through it alone. In addition to the number of support programs offered, there are a number of volunteer opportunities available as well, from day-of event help to project-based and weekly groups. For more information about any programs at BIAWA, please visit our website at www.biawa.org or call us at (206) 467-4800.
