La Banque hotel is located in the old Homewood State Bank in the heart of Homewood's business district. The building was erected in 1925 and was a landmark building that operated as a center for commerce from 1925-2013. Owing its name to the initial purpose of the building, a bank, and the French-Canadian heritage of the new owner of the building, La Banque conveys a sense of history and hospitality. Claude Gendreau, who is not a stranger to Homewood, acquired the building vacated by Great Lakes Bank in 2013. He couldn't pass up the challenge of rehabbing a landmark building that was at risk of blighting Homewood, a community close to his heart.The oldest original section of the building dating back to 1925 hosts the hotel's restaurant, La Voûte Bistro and Bar, a French inspired bistro. The breakfast buffet is served in the main vault and is available for private dining for lunch and dinner. The unique history of the building was honored by repurposing the gems of the building including the three vaults. Banks of safety deposit boxes were used as the backdrop for the bar and are present throughout the restaurant.Gendreau, a conservationist, previously purchased another Homewood landmark, Ravisloe Country Club, which had closed its doors after 108 years of operation as a private country club. It is now a highly rated golf course open to the public for golf and special events. Golfers from all over the Chicagoland come to Homewood to play the only public access course in Illinois designed by Donald Ross, a famous golf course architect.
