BirdCare Aotearoa provides professional care and rehabilitation for sick, injured, and orphaned wild birds.Based in Green Bay, Auckland, BirdCare Aotearoa is the largest bird rehabilitation facility in New Zealand, admitting over 6,000 patients annually. In 2021, we admitted a record 6,710 birds of 175 different species. While many of our patients are native species, no wild bird in need is turned away from our centre. We accept and care for native and non-native species, including orphaned chicks and victims of cat attacks, road accidents, pollution, window strikes, and adverse weather.Research, education and advocacy are also an important part of our mission as we seek to share knowledge with other professionals, students, volunteers, and the wider community. We do this through student placements, courses and other activities, including Frontline Emergency Training in which participants learn how to respond safely and humanely to wildlife emergencies and develop skills to care for wildlife in need.As a non-profit that receives no government funding, we rely entirely on the generosity of our wonderful supporters. Every dollar donated enables us to provide veterinary care, nutritious food and suitable habitats for the thousands of birds brought to our hospital every year – giving them the best possible chance of release back into the wild. We are grateful for the kindness and generosity of the individuals and companies who work with us. If you would like to join us in protecting New Zealand's wild birds and are interested in becoming a BirdCare Aotearoa partner, please email support@birdcareaotearoa.org.nz or call 027 816 9219 and ask to speak with Bianka or Lynn. Your support gives wild birds a second chance at life.
