Joyce Frankland Academy, Newport is a mixed comprehensive secondary school with approximately 1,000 pupils on roll aged 11 to 18. The school is one of the oldest in Essex being founded in 1588, the year of the Armada. Since 1588 our core purpose has been to fully prepare our young people for their life ahead, they are our ambassadors and our future. Our mission has always been to educate the young people of Newport, Saffron Walden to be exemplary members of the community through academic rigour, challenge, creativity, opportunity and respect. We have a rich history and we are looking for ambitious, highly motivated and exceptional individuals to join our Academy to be a key part in the next phase of our extraordinary journey. The school converted to Academy status in 2012 and follows the National Curriculum. The Academy employs approximately 165 staff and is set in approximately 38 acres. The Academy has a wide catchment area; pupils come from as far as Cambridgeshire to the north, Royston to the west, Suffolk and Braintree to the east and Harlow, Roydon, Hoddesdon, Epping and Ongar to the south. The village of Newport, Saffron Walden is located in Essex, close to the Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire boarders. We are situated close to Cambridge, Bishop's Stortford and Stansted Airport and the area has excellent transport links with the M11 located close by; Newport also benefits from excellent rail links, being on the London Liverpool Street to Cambridge train line.
