Dar Al Ajaza Association was established as a non-profit charitable organization of public interest in 1952. It shelters and cares for the elderly and the disabled by providing medical care and treatment for patients with mental disabilities and nervous disorders. Resident patients are of all ages and from various social groups hailing from all parts of Lebanon, plus a few from neighboring Arab countries. Dar Al AjazaAl Islamia Hospital comprises today 600 beds operated by a dedicated staff of some 300 physicians(Psychiatrists, Geriatricians, and other specialties), plus around 350 employees, workers and nurses. It also serves as a teaching hospital for Psychiatry residency program that has graduated a number of qualified physicians in Psychiatry, nurses and other healthcare professionals specializing in mental and psychiatric illnesses. The operating expenses of Dar Al Ajaza Hospital are funded partially by the government and by private donations (from institutional and individual donors). Its infrastructure programs are largely implemented with philanthropic donations for capital investments. Its Governing Board is headed by Dr. Mahmoud Faour and composed of 24 members elected for life. They function as a general assembly overseeing various aspects of Dar Al Ajaza's activities. The Governing Board elects from among its members 8 directors for a period of three years (renewable) to be responsible for Dar Al Ajaza's various committees and task forces. The Hospital management team is led by a General Manager who oversees various departments including Medical, Nursing, Laboratories, Radiology, Pharmacy, Outpatient Clinics,Physiotherapy,Ergo therapy,Social Work, Finance, Administration and Technical Support Services – in addition to various staff units, Public Relations, Information Systems, Quality Management, and Infection Control.
