Wayward Chickadee is a small, local company bringing you handcrafted, all natural products right to your front door. We respect the nature around us and love to explore the endless forests, lakes, mountains, and coastline that Maine has to offer. We use this as our inspiration to create quality products and share what nature has to to offer. All of our artisanal soaps are made using the cold process method of saponification. This traditional method uses the natural reaction between oil or fat (olive oil, cocoa butter etc.) mixed with a lye (Sodium Hydroxide), which over time then solidifies into what we know as soap. Once the soap is solid, we cut it and let is cure about 4-6 weeks before we package it and send it to you. All of our bars contain carefully selected oils and butters using studied formulations to obtain a soap that is soft, cleansing, moisturizing, and invigorating. Our exfoliating bars contain natural exfoliants such as oats, seaweed, and salts. All of our soaps are natural and can provide additional health benefits.Industrial soaps and shower gels are predominately detergents. One of the biggest benefits of the cold process method is that the final product is actual glycerin soap and not a detergent. Industrial soap manufacturers have long abandoned the cold process method in order to make larger quantities by heating the soap mixture to accelerate the process. The moment the mixture is heated, it loses all of the beneficial properties of the oils and butters. They also often add mineral oils derived from petrol, chemical surfactants, as well as artificial fragrances and chemical preservatives. What's missing is the vegetal glycerin, created through the cold process, which is a natural softening and moisturizing agent. Glycerin helps nourish the skin and replenishes moisture. From lip balms and bath bombs to scented candles, all of the products at Wayward Chickadee contain only natural ingredients and respect the environment.
