Sidney Wooten started Whippoorwill in 1971 to give children a place to discover the wonders of nature and themselves. She envisioned a noncompetitive day camp where children could choose their activities several times a day. That first summer, four campers attended the first session and transportation was provided by Sidney's VW van. Fast-forward 42 years and we are proud to serve 1600 campers each summer!
