Ready2Shine CIC is a Service for Adults with Learning Disabilities to access Education in relation to Sexual Health, Emotions, Relationships and Self Care. This is not just about sexual activity; this will include aspects such as boundaries with staff, peers, family and strangers. Other topics will include managing menstruation, self-care for males and females and appropriate masturbation. Understanding and managing emotions and recognising different types of relationships will also be key themes during the sessions.The course is designed to explore all elements listed above with small groups of participants allowing them to recognise and understand why these aspects of their lives are important and how they can manage these appropriately in their adolescent and adult years (dependant on the age demographic of the group). The sessions will aim to enhance overall holistic Health and Wellbeing and to equip the service users with the knowledge and understanding to safeguard and protect themselves and others.The sessions will specifically focus on one topic at a time, allowing students the time and opportunity to explore these topics in detail. Each session will be planned according to individual need, learning style and in consultation with those that support them in their everyday lives.Sex and Relationships Education is currently a Non Statutory subject within the National Curriculum and is often not prioritised within educational establishments. Professionals working within the field of Learning Disabilities often report that they are not equipped with time, resource or knowledge to be able to deliver Relationships and Sex Education effectively therefore Ready2Shine CIC aims to bridge that gap.
