In 1991, while working for Toronto Community Housing Corporation as a Recreation Program Coordinator, Sharon began the process of creating her own programming to address the key needs of female youth in the community by interviewing parents, youth, community workers and teachers .The original "Girlz Program" started operation with a small dream in 1992 through the City of Toronto in a room with 8 excited girls. Sharon's experience with the hard trials and tribulations that teenage girls and young women have to endure, helped her to discuss real issues like the eating disorder she suffered, the depression she experienced from bullying, and the bad relationship choices.Sharon, knew first hand the strategies needed to discover her full potential. The response was immediate and enthusiastic 8 girls lead to 45 in one program to having to create 2 separate programs in less than a week.Her desire to be the voice for the silent and the strength of the weak, lead to becoming the founder and president of Simply Anew Me for over 2 decades.Now, Simply Anew Me operates her newly titled We R Gemz programs, monthly in many cities throughout the GTA. Sharon is also operating them in after school programs for many amazing girls.
