The Hutchins School is located approximately five kilometres from the CBD of Hobart, Tasmania's capital city, and twenty minutes from the Hobart airport. The main campus lies on the slopes of Mount Nelson, overlooking the picturesque River Derwent. It is adjacent to the University of Tasmania. Its facilities are extensive and include modern classrooms, science and computer laboratories, three libraries, a performing arts centre, a chapel and the student residence. The Outdoor Education Centre is located at Southport, approximately 100km south from Hobart on the edge of the World Heritage Wilderness.Hutchins has one turf cricket wicket, four turf cricket nets, three playing fields, a well-equipped gymnasium, two weights training rooms, one fully equipped rowing ergo training facility and six tennis courts. The School's sail training boat Aurora is used for outdoor programs on the River Derwent, which also forms the backdrop for rowing events.Hutchins is a founder-member of the International Coalition of Boys' Schools, a member of the Independent Schools of Tasmania and a member of the global school network Round Square.
