Luke's FastBreaks is a nonprofit that makes colorful medical shirts that replace the hospital gown for children fighting cancer and other children in the hospital long-term to wear while in the hospital.The medical shirts enable children/teens to feel comfortable during their hospital stay, while also boosting their self-esteem by allowing for self-expression with the different color options and designs. The medical shirts also restore their privacy—something that's often lacking in the traditional hospital gown. The medical shirts meet hospital standards and are approved by the Association of Child Life Professionals. Luke's FastBreaks donates our medical shirts to the Pediatric Oncology/Hematology, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and other pediatric patients in hospitals long-term free of charge. Physicians, Child Life Specialists and hospital staff credit the medical shirts for giving the children a sense of normalcy during their hospital stay. The idea for the Luke's FastBreaks medical shirts was started by 9-year old Luke Lange during his fight with cancer. Luke said the hospital gown made him "feel more sick"—he just wanted to feel like a normal 3rd grader.So, Luke and his parents had snap tape sewed into both sides of his t-shirts allowing easy access to ports, IVs and lines while also giving Luke the ability to be in an outfit that looked and felt normal (https://youtu.be/9gIqW99Rba0). Luke wore his new shirts to treatment at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Soon after, other children in the hospital started asking where they could get one too, so the nonprofit, Luke's FastBreaks, was founded (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeCHhokYTDs). The sizes range from toddler to youth all the way up to Adult XXL allowing every child (and teen) in hospitals to find a shirt that fits properly.
