Founded in 2004, the award-winning E.L. Haynes Public Charter School currently serves 1,200 students from grades Pre-K through 12. E.L. Haynes is named for Dr. Euphemia Lofton Haynes - the first African-American woman to receive a doctorate in mathematics and a DC public school teacher for 47 years.StudentsThe diversity of our student body reflects the demographics of our city: 68% of E.L. Haynes students are low income and 23% are English Language Learners; E.L. Haynes' student body is 51% African-American, 35% Latino, 9% Caucasian, 4% Multi-Race, and 1% Asian.Leadership and StaffFounded by education reform leader and Head of School Jennifer C. Niles, E.L. Haynes is led by a dedicated board of trustees that makes critical decisions pertaining to management, facilities, finance and fundraising and serves in the role of School Board. E.L.
