Established in 1964 by Mrs. K. Varalakshmi Rao, Swami Sivananda Memorial Institute (SSMI) empowers women and children to realise their potential with dignity through the development of knowledge, skills, income and social confidence. SSMI is a secular, independent non-profit society registered under the Societies Act 1860 (Regd. No S 2499/1964). Located in West Delhi, the organisation works in the four main areas women's empowerment, education, health, and nutrition. SSMI is a builder of social sector models for introducing innovation, creating livelihood, and building sustainable programs. SSMI is managed by a Trust Board and an Executive Committee.Donations made to SSMI are exempt under section 80 (G) of the Income Tax Act. Under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 1976, SSMI is permitted to receive donation and funds in foreign currency.
