Paxton Gate Portland is a store known for its magical mix of neo-Victorian delights, eclectic animal and plant ephemera, taxidermy, exotic plants—including the carnivorous variety—framed and mounted insects, jewelry, unique gardening tools, affordable art, vintage scientific instruments and more.The 1200 square foot store located in the Mississippi neighborhood of Portland opened in 2010 after the owners licensed the name and idea from their good friend Sean Quigley, the owner of the original store in San Francisco. While that store has been described by Time Out London as resembling Martha Stewart Meets David Lynch, Paxton Gate Portland owners Andy and Susan Brown have put their own stamp on things by also featuring designers, artists and artisans from the Pacific Northwest. They see their store as a "natural history museum where everything is for sale."Paxton Gate Portland has been featured in Sunset Magazine, Thrillist, Willamette Week, Portland Monthly, Good Morning Oregon, Oregon Home, Oregon Bride, The Seattle Times, Sierra Magazine and the British newspaper The Guardian. In addition, the hit television show Portlandia filmed a particularly memorable episode of the Emmy nominated series at the store starring Jeff Goldblum.
