The Society for Oncology Massage was organized to ease the journey through cancer and beyond for patients, family members and caregivers. Grounded in a philosophy of compassion and service, S4OM is dedicated to connecting cancer patients, their families and caregivers with skilled oncology massage therapists.Oncology massage therapists have completed additional training beyond basic massage education addressing the full spectrum of cancer-related issues: physical consequences of cancer, side effects of various treatments and the psycho-social and emotional consequences. Therapists learn to adapt the extensive repertoire of standard massage therapy techniques to work safely and effectively with people living with cancer.The Society evaluates instructors and curricula and maintains a list of those it recognizes for thoroughness and completeness.
