Bare Roots is a result of my personal obsession with connecting with the land. Having come from a family of growers, farmers, and environmentalists, I have been destined to share my passion for plants and food. Yet it is an obsession started when my mother first told me the story of when she first came to Australia in 1960 with parsley seeds sewn into the hem of her dress, by her grandmother. An act of raw sustainability, and ensuring the continuation of something spectacular. Since learning of this story I have continued the family tradition of being green, and have collected a spectacular collection of unusual, old fashioned, forgotten, and delightful edible plant varieties. Bare Roots cultivates a carefully selected range of heirloom and organic seedlings that have been specifically chosen for their distinct health benefits. We use sustainable organic growing methods, and environmentally friendly practices. Primarily we use a growing technique known as soil blocking, which is a pot-less growing method that encourages the seedlings roots to grow inwards, creating a healthy ball of roots . Our speciality ranges are made from recycled biodegradable materials, that are hand crafted into completely unique pots. This makes them ready to plant without the wastage of plastic pots, and 100% environmentally friendly! We aim to become an organically certified grower and provider, but we are still in the application process. However, you can be rest assured we use all natural organic growing methods and techniques in our cultivation process, and we never use artificial fertilisers, pesticides, or fungicides. Additionally all of our seed is supplied through trusted Australian traders, and we only purchase certified organic and heirloom seed stock.
