Mizell Senior Center is a non-denominational, 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has been serving the greater Palm Springs area since 1974, fulfilling its mission to provide dynamic programs and relevant services that are responsive to our adult community. Our welcoming environment offers community, camaraderie and kinship for people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. Our members are the reason that Mizell is full of life! Our Center-based network of programs and services is designed to support independence, promote lifelong learning and sustain an active and engaged lifestyle. Monday through Friday of any given week, members and guests bring vibrancy to more than 50 separate activities, lectures, classes and creative arts pursuits. A portion of our weekly schedule is devoted to a full range of wellness programs. We offer 7-10 different fitness classes in multiple disciplines, a variety of support groups, health lectures, our pioneering falls prevention program, A Matter of Balance and so much more. Programs and classes address the varying needs, abilities and interests of our members and are accessible to those with limited resources. Our Meals on Wheels program is the largest in the Coachella Valley, serving approximately 1/3 of all home delivered meals in this area through our contract with the Riverside County Office on Aging. Our staff prepares and delivers 500± nutritious meals every weekday on routes that stretch from Whitewater to the Salton Sea. Meals are delivered to homebound and often isolated seniors, as well as up to 8 Valley-based senior centers in support of their congregate lunch programs. For many homebound clients, the visit from their driver is the only social interaction they have on any given day. Our drivers are certified in CPR and receive training to recognize health and social issues to allow for early intervention through our referral programs.
