Stefan Rochfort sports over 18 years of information technology experience in software development, analysis, consulting, database administration and project management. With an additional 9+ years across a variety of technical and creative roles in film and digital media production (winning international awards with festival and broadcast releases across 5 continents), his skill set continues to grow. Most recently (and most meaningfully) he has engaged the full range of his diverse skill set to create Talking Mimes Must Die (https://www.talkingmimesmustdie.com) a virtual reality experience drawn from true stories of people with profound physical disabilities. This is NOT a disability simulator, in the traditional sense (even sophisticated VR / XR simulations of disability are often problematic and can be, frankly, insulting). Created in partnership with friends and colleagues who run the gamut of (dis)ability, Talking Mimes aims to better inform our behaviour towards people with complex needs. To start a practical conversation around safety and respect. To actively reject the soft bigotry of low expectations. To peel back the layers of alienation and teach us how to be less accidentally condescending assholes, and more on purpose good humans.
