The Family Resource Center of Sheboygan County was established in 1997 as a nonprofit organization and is dedicated to supporting young children, their families, and adults through its two strengths-based, preventative programs:Parents as Teachers is a federally-approved, evidence-based home visitation program with a vision that all children, birth to school entry, will be safe, healthy, and thrive in supportive, nurturing, and loving families and also that children will start school ready to learn. Through monthly or biweekly home visits, trained, certified Parent Educators provide timely child development information, screenings, and answer parents' questions. The Literacy Council provides adult learners one-on-one tutoring by trained volunteer tutors to help them learn how to read, write, and/or speak English better. The Literacy Council also teaches U.S. Citizenship classes at Lakeshore Technical College and offers Community Education Outreach workplace literacy program, where basic English classes are offered to area businesses.
