Representing Arizona's DOs for over 100 years: Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona is a rapidly expanding field. Over 4,400 osteopathic physicians (DOs) are licensed to practice in Arizona. In addition, there are two osteopathic medical schools in the state and numerous residency training programs. The Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association (AOMA) represents and provides a common voice for DOs across the state.AOMA has more than 2600 members – active, retired, associates, interns, residents, and medical students. AOMA is a dually-accredited - AOA & ACCME - as a provider of continuing medical education. What is a DO In the world of medicine, there are osteopathic (DO) and allopathic (MD) philosophies. Doctors from the two schools of thought look at patients in different ways. Doctors from both philosophies can practice in all of the same fields of medicine, from brain surgery to delivering babies. The difference is that doctors of osteopathic medicine focus very much on how to care for the person as a whole. Doctors of osteopathic medicine also provide osteopathic manipulative medicine treatment.
