The 1990 Institute is a San Francisco Bay Area 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging the people of the United States and China through education, philanthropy, and collaboration. Founded by a group of prominent academic, business, and community leaders, the Institute began as a think tank researching major economic and social issues related to China. We have produced books and issue papers and sponsored conferences and symposia.Over the years, the Institute expanded its mission and developed education and philanthropic programs in China in the areas of girls' education, cross-cultural exchanges, and microfinance loans. The Institute is now focused on developing programs to broaden understanding and trust between Americans and Chinese.
