On 1 January 2015, the Victorian Government established the Department of Health & Human Services, bringing together the former Department of Health, Department of Human Services and Sport and Recreation Victoria. The Department of Health & Human Services works in partnership to develops and delivers policies, programs and services that support and enhance the well-being of all Victorians. The department did this through: - managing the public hospital system - developing health infrastructure in rural and metropolitan Victoria - pursuing opportunities for partnership with the primary care sector and other governments - public health interventions - implementing major health initiatives such as the Victorian Cancer Action Plan - preventative health initiatives and education programs.
