Kirkwood Bank & Trust was chartered by the North Dakota Department of Banking and Financial Institutions in February 1975 as Bank of Kirkwood Plaza. In 1981, Bank of Kirkwood Plaza was sold to a Fargo banker and re-named Dakota Bank & Trust Company. The bank was sold to its present stockholders in 1987 and re-named Kirkwood Bank & Trust.Since being sold to its present owners and changing its name, the bank has grown from nine million dollars in total assets to over two hundred million dollars and has more than tripled the original staff of fourteen employees. The bank has three branches in Bismarck and one in Dickinson, ND.
