Bishop Luers High School is a Catholic high school located on the south side of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Bishop Luers is owned and operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. The school was founded in 1958 by the Franciscan Fathers of Saint John the Baptist Province in Cincinnati, Ohio, along with the Sisters of Saint Francis Province in Mishawaka, Indiana. The first bishop of the diocese, John Henry Luers, is the namesake of the school. Students come from 11 Catholic elementary schools and numerous public schools. Over 98% of the graduates from the class of 2010 chose to continue their education at the college level. Bishop Luers is accredited by the North Central Association Commission of School and the State of Indiana. It was given a First-Class (the highest) certification rating in 2010. Bishop Luers has a total of 41 faculty members, all holding at least BS or BA degrees and more than half holding advanced degrees and all certified by the state of Indiana. Bishop Luers High School is credited for the first ever Show Choir Competition in the nation and starting Lacrosse as a sport in our area. Students participate in a wide variety of co-curricular activities and championship sport teams while being committed to receiving an exceptional academic education. In maintaining Bishop Luers high standards, an improvement plan has been implemented. Phase One of the multi-phased improvement plan at Bishop Luers High School has been completed and included complete renovation of the HVAC system, new electrical service plan, new lighting in all corridors and in the gymnasium, new facades across the campus including new windows, and a new main entry vestibule. Bishop Luers High School is known for its traditions. Indeed, our mascot, the kneeling knight, is based on the Franciscan tradition of peace, for the knight is strong with armor, yet humble when kneeling. He is part of the spirit which embodies Bishop Luers High School, known collectively as "Luers Spirit. Luers Spirit is created through the combination of students, staff, parents and alumni. A mixture of old and new, different backgrounds, diversity of cultures, yet joined together as one family. For over 50 years, Bishop Luers High School has fostered a tradition of excellence in academics, sports and co-curricular activities. Students are able to excel in an environment that challenges them academically and teaches morals, integrity, respect and responsibility.
