SMS has been a source of inspiration and uniting force for the women of Maharashtra, always ready to support, assist & co-operate with the local organizations for the benefit of the society as a whole and women & children in particular. Since 1975 SMS has directed its efforts towards the upliftment of women, chiefly by creating awareness in the society about women's issues and the issues related to equality, peace and development. Stree Mukti Sanghatana (SMS) works to bring about economic, social, political and cultural changes in the lives of women in so as to remove all kinds of discrimination because of their secondary status in the society & to achieve equal status bestowed on them by the Constitution of India. SMS aims to translate the rights conferred on them by the constitution of India into reality by conducting various programmes, projects &activities. . It is an autonomous voluntary organization. It is not affiliated to any political party or political group.The activists hail from various walks of life, are of all ages(from 16 to 80 years) including students, working women and men, house wives and trained social workers, advocates, teachers, doctors, engineers and large number of illiterate women from different religions, castes and class.
